Parish church of Saint Kolumban, Parish church in Weidach district, Bregenz, Austria
The Parish church of Saint Kolumban is a church building in the Weidach district with a rhomboidal floor plan and a raised structure above the main entrance. A freestanding bell tower made of exposed concrete and a western gallery for extra seating define the spatial layout.
The building was constructed between 1962 and 1966 based on a design by Hans Burtscher, forming part of a larger parish complex. The development included a priest's residence, parish hall, and kindergarten built during the same period.
The interior displays modern betonglass windows by Walter Haegele that shape how light enters the space. Bronze sculptures by Egino Weinert and a tabernacle showing 42 enamel scenes from Jesus's life form the artistic focus of the sanctuary.
The church space features seating on a western gallery with sloping floors that help with sightlines from any position in the building. An electronic Ahlborn organ supports musical performances and services held here.
The southern chapel holds a medieval statue of the Virgin Mary with Child from 1430 that was originally brought from the municipality of Röns. This sculpture survived across centuries and multiple locations before finding its place here.
