Burg Hohenbregenz, Medieval castle ruins on Gebhardsberg mountain, Bregenz, Austria.
The remains of Burg Hohenbregenz stand at 598 meters elevation, featuring sections of the original ring wall and parts of the palace structure.
Swedish troops captured the castle without resistance in 1647 during the Thirty Years' War and destroyed it by detonating five explosive mines.
The St. Gebhard pilgrimage church, constructed in 1723 within the former palace walls, gave the mountain its current name.
Visitors can reach the castle by taking Landbus Line 12C from Bregenz main station to Abzweigung Gebhardsberg, followed by a 10-minute walk.
The castle's 10th-century water tower now houses a wine cellar, while its courtyard and rooms serve as a restaurant and event venue.
