Hoher Kasten, Mountain summit in Appenzell Alps, Switzerland
Located at an elevation of 1,794 meters, Hoher Kasten offers views extending across Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France, and Italy.
The mountain's first documented geographical and agricultural description appeared in Johann Rudolf Steinmüller's publication about Swiss Alps farming in 1802.
The summit represents the meeting point of Alpine traditions from three different regions: Appenzell, St. Gallen, and Vorarlberg.
A cable car system connects Brülisau to the summit in eight minutes, operating daily except for annual maintenance from March 3 to April 4.
The summit features eastern Switzerland's single revolving restaurant, completing a full rotation every 90 minutes while serving regional specialties.
