Eiskögele, Mountain summit in Heiligenblut, Austria
Eiskögele is a mountain summit standing at 3423 meters where three Austrian states meet. Its northern face displays steep slopes and glacial features that shape the landscape of this high Alpine region.
The summit was first reached on July 30, 1872, when climber B. Lergetporer from Schwaz arrived with guides Michel Groder and Josef Kerer. This ascent marked the start of its record as a mountaineering destination in the Eastern Alps.
The mountain received a new summit cross made of stone pine wood in summer 2016, marking its significance in Alpine mountaineering traditions.
Climbers typically start from Oberwalderhütte at 2972 meters elevation. The route crosses the Pasterze glacier to reach the northeast ridge, requiring glacier travel skills and Alpine climbing experience.
The north face presents a 500-meter vertical climbing challenge with mixed rock and ice conditions. These demanding technical conditions make the northern approach a serious test for experienced mountaineers.
