Teufelshorn, Alpine summit in High Tauern, Austria.
Teufelshorn is a prominent peak within the Glockner Group in the High Tauern range. Its distinctive tower-like shape rises sharply above the surrounding terrain and defines much of the landscape in this high-altitude region.
The first recorded ascent happened on August 8, 1884, when Moriz von Kuffner reached the summit with guides Christian Ranggetiner and E. Rubesoier. This climb marked an important milestone in opening up this Alpine region to mountaineering.
The mountain serves as a natural border between Tyrol and Carinthia provinces, representing an important geographical landmark in Austrian mountaineering traditions.
Climbers start from Stüdl Hut and can traverse the Teischnitzkees glacier or pass through Untere Glocknerscharte to reach this peak. Expect high-altitude Alpine conditions and be prepared for glacier travel on the approach.
The peak sits on the Northwest Ridge of Großglockner and marks the natural boundary between the provinces of Tyrol and Carinthia. This position makes it a valuable reference point when traversing between neighboring summits.
