Heiligenblut

The municipality sits at an elevation of 1,288 meters at the northwestern edge of Carinthia, beneath the Grossglockner peak, Austria's highest mountain.

In 1271, a Danish knight named Briccius carried a relic of Christ's blood from Constantinople, leading to the establishment of a chapel in Heiligenblut.

The Gothic pilgrimage church, built between 1460 and 1491, contains a late-Gothic winged altarpiece from 1520 and serves as the final resting place of Briccius.

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road connects Heiligenblut to Salzburg, providing access to hiking trails, skiing areas, and the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Local gold panning activities take place in a reconstructed village that demonstrates mining techniques used between the 14th and 18th centuries.
