Essl Collection

The Essl Collection is an art museum in Klosterneuburg that displays contemporary works in a modern building with spacious exhibition areas. The venue offers natural light throughout its rooms and presents works across two levels to organize the collection clearly.

The museum was founded in 1999 as a private initiative to display a collection of contemporary artworks. After years under a new name and concept, the institution reopened in its current form in 2024, offering a fresh approach to the collection.

The collection focuses on contemporary art from Austria and beyond, filling the spaces with works that show different approaches to modern artistic creation. Visitors experience a broad range that presents artistic production from recent decades in various forms.

The museum is open from Thursday through Sunday, allowing visitors a good window for an extended visit. It is advisable to allow enough time to explore the exhibitions across both levels and examine the artworks in detail.

The museum presents a prize for emerging artists from Central and South-East Europe, supporting talented creators who have not yet gained broad recognition in the art world. This initiative shows the venue's commitment to promoting artists beyond established circles and making new perspectives visible.
