Klosterneuburg, Riverside municipality in Lower Austria, Austria

Located on the western bank of the Danube River, Klosterneuburg extends through hills and valleys between Vienna Woods and Kahlenberg mountain at 192 meters elevation.

The settlement originated from a Roman fortress called Asturis, later developing around a castle and Augustinian abbey established by Margrave Leopold III in 1100.

The Klosterneuburg Abbey houses a significant museum containing the Verdun Altar, created in 1181, featuring intricate gold and enamel craftsmanship.

The Federal College of Viticulture and Pomology, founded in 1860, provides specialized education in wine production and fruit cultivation techniques.

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria conducts research in physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, and biosciences within the municipality boundaries.
