Habsburgwarte, Protected observation tower in Döbling district, Vienna, Austria.
Habsburgwarte is an observation tower with stone walls located on Hermannskogel hill near Vienna. The structure features multiple viewing levels that allow visitors to look out across the surrounding landscape.
The Austrian Tourist Club built this tower in 1889 to honor Emperor Franz Joseph I's 40 years of rule. Architect Franz von Neumann designed it with its distinctive medieval-style architecture.
The tower's name reflects the Habsburg dynasty that once ruled this region. From the viewing platform, visitors can see across lands that were once part of this vast empire.
The tower is generally open on weekends and public holidays between April and October. A small entrance fee helps support the ongoing maintenance of the structure.
For many decades, this tower served as the reference point for mapping the entire Austro-Hungarian Empire. A memorial stone at its base still marks this significant role in surveying and cartography.
