Trisselwand, Mountain summit in Styria, Austria
Trisselwand is a peak in the Totes Gebirge range that rises to 1,754 meters above sea level. The mountain displays steep rock faces and varied rock types along its slopes, creating a complex geologic landscape.
Climbers were drawn to the peak during the early era of Alpine exploration, with documented first ascents recorded in the late 19th century. This period marked the beginning of regular human engagement with peaks in the Totes Gebirge range.
The peak holds a place in regional mountaineering traditions, with local guides sharing their knowledge and routes with climbers who visit. This connection between people and the mountain remains visible in how visitors approach and respect the terrain.
The trail to the summit starts from Tressensattel and covers approximately seven kilometers with an elevation gain of around 766 meters. Most hikers complete the route in about four to five hours, so bringing plenty of water and sturdy hiking boots is important.
The north face displays exposed limestone layers that reveal millions of years of Alpine mountain building. These geological layers tell the story of how the peak formed over vast stretches of time.
