Villa Peham, Heritage villa in Hinterstoder, Austria

Villa Peham was a residential building constructed near the Steyr river from 1924 to 1926 with modern architectural features of that era. The structure featured distinctive design elements and later served as a recreational facility for employees and public workers.

The building was constructed in 1924 for Viennese gynecologist Heinrich Peham under the direction of architects Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch. It was later taken over by Upper Austria state and used as a recreational facility until its destruction.

The villa embodied how wealthy Viennese doctors chose to spend holidays in the Austrian mountains and built homes as mountain retreats. Its architecture reflected the tastes of this social circle and shaped the region's character.

The location sits in a mountainous region with changeable weather conditions, so appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear are necessary. The terrain can be slippery, especially during wetter seasons, so use caution when exploring the grounds.

The villa was destroyed by arson in 2015 and disappeared under disputed circumstances. Its demolition occurred without proper authorization, sparking local resistance and debates about redevelopment plans for the site.
