Gilibert Park, Botanical garden in Hrodna, Belarus.
Gilibert Park is a botanical garden in the center of Hrodna, Belarus, with winding paths leading through a wide collection of trees and plants. Two fountains mark different areas of the grounds, and benches alongside small cafes offer places to stop and rest.
Jean Emmanuel Gilibert, a French botanist and physician, created this garden in 1775 at the request of Antoni Tyzenhaus. It was set up to support the local medical school, making it one of the earliest scientific plant collections in the region.
The park has a stage where concerts and performances take place regularly, drawing visitors from across the city. Local musicians and performers appear here throughout the year, making it a natural gathering point for people of all ages.
The park sits across from Lenin Square in central Hrodna and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city center. A visit works well at any time of year, though spring and summer bring the most activity along the paths.
Gilibert personally selected around 2000 plant species for the original garden, a number that was large for its time in Eastern Europe. This made the site one of the first places in the region where plants were studied in a formal and organized way.
