TD Place Stadium, Multi-purpose sports venue in Ottawa, Canada
TD Place Stadium is a multi-purpose sports venue in Ottawa with 24,000 seats distributed across two grandstands. Steel A-frame structures support an extended roof that shelters most of the spectator areas from weather.
The first covered wooden grandstand was built here in 1908 when the city wanted a permanent venue for sporting events. After several renovations, the ground hosted Olympic soccer matches in 1976 and seven Grey Cup finals.
During the annual Panda Game, over 20,000 spectators gather when the city's two major universities face each other. The teams from Carleton and the University of Ottawa compete for an old wooden panda that has become the symbol of this longstanding rivalry.
The facility sits directly beside the Rideau Canal and is well connected by public transit. Multiple entrances are distributed around the building so visitors can reach their seats quickly.
In March 2017, the ground was transformed into an outdoor ice hockey rink for an NHL centennial game. Over 33,000 spectators watched the Ottawa Senators take on the Montreal Canadiens that day.
