Taschereau Bridge, Road bridge in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Canada
Taschereau Bridge is a steel structure spanning the West Channel of the Ottawa River, linking Vaudreuil-Dorion with Pincourt on Île Perrot. The crossing carries four lanes of Quebec Autoroute 20 and includes a separate bicycle path.
The bridge opened in 1925 and gradually replaced earlier connections between Montreal and mainland regions. A modernization in 1964 increased capacity to handle growing traffic demands.
The bridge bears the name of Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, who served as Premier of Quebec from 1920 to 1936 during the structure's construction period.
Vehicles can cross the four-lane highway directly, while cyclists use the separate path as part of the regional cycling network. The crossing operates day and night and is regularly maintained.
A railroad bridge from 1854 previously stood at this location, creating the first permanent connection between Montreal and the mainland. That historical predecessor paved the way for today's modern road link.
