Mauvoisin dam

The Mauvoisin dam is a double-curve arch structure made of reinforced concrete that spans across the valley. The construction creates a large water reservoir and manages the flow in this mountain region.

The dam was built between 1951 and 1958 and later raised during renovations in the 1990s. The project was part of the extensive hydroelectric development that powered Switzerland during the 20th century.

The dam represents a cornerstone of Swiss engineering achievement and holds status as a class B cultural property of regional significance in Switzerland.

A walking path leads upward from the village of Mauvoisin to the dam wall. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and expect a steep climb through the mountains.

The structure ranks among the world's tallest arch dams and represents a remarkable engineering achievement. The curved shape was specifically designed to withstand extreme water pressure in this narrow mountain gorge.
