The excavated structures at Augusta Raurica include an amphitheater for 6,000 spectators, temples, a forum, and residential buildings from Roman times.
Founded around 44 BC by Lucius Munatius Plancus, Augusta Raurica developed into a significant colony with 20,000 inhabitants until its destruction in 260 AD.
The site museum displays the silver treasure of Kaiseraugst, ancient artifacts, and a reconstructed Roman house depicting daily life in the settlement.
The archaeological site maintains regular opening hours, offers guided tours in multiple languages, and provides educational programs for school groups throughout the year.
Archaeological teams continue to study only 20 percent of Augusta Raurica, while 80 percent of the Roman city remains underground for future research.
