Hotel Bregaglia, hotel
Hotel Bregaglia is a late 19th-century building in Promontogno, built by Giovanni Sottovia around 1876, featuring classical style with a tower and angled side wings. Inside, a large octagonal atrium with a glass roof serves as the heart of the building, while a cozy dining room accommodates up to 22 guests with vintage chandeliers and old radio pieces.
The hotel was built around 1876 or 1877 by Giovanni Sottovia as a guesthouse for visitors to the mountain region. In August 2017, a landslide near the hotel caused hundreds of cancellations, prompting the owner to temporarily close the building.
Hotel Bregaglia sits in a region shaped by Swiss and Italian traditions. Visitors can notice this cultural blend in the architecture and daily life of the village.
The hotel sits in a mountain village with a quiet setting and makes a good base for hiking and exploring the surrounding nature. Rooms are simple and functional, with some older bathrooms located in corridors rather than inside rooms.
The heart of the hotel is a large octagonal atrium with a glass roof, once equipped with a working call system. This central space showcases 19th-century elegance and remains striking as a gathering place, though the old call system is no longer operational.
