Chapelle du Vorbourg

The Chapelle du Vorbourg is a Gothic chapel situated on a hilltop near Delemont, displaying the pointed arches and stone construction characteristic of medieval religious buildings. Its simple yet solid structure dominates the location and remains visible from many surrounding viewpoints.

The chapel was established during the medieval period as a pilgrimage site and maintained its connection to the local population over centuries. Over time it underwent restoration work and received its designation as a Class A Swiss cultural property of national significance in 1972.

The chapel has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries, drawing believers who come to pray and seek spiritual connection. The site remains a place where visitors experience the living role of faith in the local community.

The chapel is best reached by following marked hiking paths from Delemont town center, which take about half an hour and are clearly signposted. Parking is available near the entrance, and the climb is moderately steep, so sturdy footwear is advisable.

The chapel sits on a prominent hill with a pilgrimage tradition spanning more than 500 years. This elevated location allowed early pilgrims to spot the chapel from a distance, making it recognizable as their destination long before arrival.
