Delémont

Delémont is the capital of Canton Jura and sits at 435 meters above sea level in a valley between the Jura ridges. The town is crossed by the Sorne river and surrounded by farmland and forests.

The town received its first written mention in 737 as Delemonze, and later became significant under the rule of the Bishop of Basel in 1289. This ecclesiastical connection shaped the town's development over centuries.
