Globe of Science and Innovation, Scientific exhibition center at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.
The Globe of Science and Innovation is a spherical structure located on the CERN campus that houses exhibitions about particle physics and research. Inside, two nested spheres are connected by wooden arches that create the interior walls and support the overall form.
The structure was originally built for Expo.02 in Neuchâtel, where it operated as the Palais de l'Équilibre. It was relocated and reassembled at its current location in 2004.
The building demonstrates how contemporary design serves scientific education through its visible interior structure. Visitors explore the galleries to learn how research shapes our understanding of the natural world.
The center is located in Meyrin on the CERN campus and welcomes visitors without entrance fees. Allow enough time to explore the different exhibition areas at a comfortable pace.
The wooden construction naturally stores carbon, making it a sustainable building choice for a scientific institution. Visitors encounter a practical example of how traditional materials support contemporary architectural design.
