Microcosm, Technology museum in Meyrin, Switzerland.
Microcosm was a science museum in Meyrin dedicated to explaining particle physics research. It featured large detector components in its outdoor garden and used interactive displays to make complex laboratory concepts understandable to visitors.
The museum was founded by CERN in 1990 and operated as a public education center until September 2022. It closed to make way for the new CERN Science Gateway.
Microcosm presented complex scientific concepts through multimedia panels, games, and experiments, making particle physics research accessible to general audiences.
The site was located near Geneva and was accessible by public transport. Visitors could explore both the indoor exhibitions and the outdoor display area with large detector components.
The collection included the original computer on which Tim Berners-Lee developed the first web server. This equipment represented a turning point in modern communication technology.
