Meyrin

Meyrin is a municipality in Canton Geneva situated on the right bank of the Rhone River, covering roughly 1000 hectares at elevations between 435 and 443 meters. The town combines residential areas with open spaces and is home to major scientific facilities.

The settlement first appeared in records in 1153 under the name Mairin, developing initially as a farming village. The area was transformed starting in the 1950s when major research institutions were established there.

The place draws residents from around the world, creating a community shaped by international work and science. Daily life here mixes countryside traditions with the pace of a modern border area.

The municipality is well connected by two railway stations to neighboring areas and sits right next to the international airport. Six primary schools support families settling here, making it easy to get around and explore the surroundings.

The area is home to major scientific research facilities that have shaped the region since their arrival. At the same time, the place preserves roughly a third of its land as working farmland and open fields.
