Choully Castle, National heritage château in Satigny, Switzerland
Choully Castle is a château in Satigny featuring a nine-axis symmetrical facade with a central projecting section topped by a pediment. The structure sits on elevated ground and is surrounded by French gardens and parterres overlooking the agricultural landscape.
The castle was built between 1720 and 1725 by Charles Lullin-de Châteauvieux-Humbert as a replacement for the family's previous residence. This new construction followed the family's sale of the lordship of Dardagny and represented a fresh start in the region.
The interior displays fine craftsmanship through a monumental spiral staircase and a salon featuring carved woodwork by Jean Jaquet. These detailed elements show how the resident family expressed their status through skilled artisans and refined taste.
The castle stands on elevated ground with views across the surrounding landscape of Satigny. It is best explored on foot, allowing time to walk through the gardens and around the property to fully appreciate its setting and design.
The property includes not just the main castle building but also surrounding farms and outbuildings. This makes it one of the largest residential complexes in the Geneva region and shows how the family's wealth extended beyond the grand house itself.
