Wuzhou

Wuzhou is a city in eastern Guangxi located where the Gui River and Xun River meet, forming a key waterway system. Its position along these rivers makes it an important trading and transportation hub for the surrounding regions.

The city was originally founded as Guangxin in 111 BCE and underwent name changes throughout its long history, including Cangwu and later Wuzhou during the Tang dynasty. These transformations reflected its evolving role as an administrative and commercial center across the centuries.

Residents speak primarily Cantonese, creating strong cultural ties to neighboring Guangdong despite being located in Guangxi. This shared language shapes daily interactions and local customs throughout the community.

The city connects to other regions via the Nanning-Guangzhou high-speed railway, national highways 207 and 321, and Wuzhou Xijiang Airport. Visitors can choose different transportation options depending on where they are coming from and how much travel time they prefer.

The city is a major center for producing synthetic gemstones, a specialized industry that most visitors don't immediately recognize when arriving. This particular manufacturing focus shapes the local economy in ways that are not always visible on the street.
