Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, International airport in Huangpi District, China
Wuhan Tianhe is the main commercial airport serving the Hubei province, located in Huangpi District about 26 kilometers north of downtown Wuhan. The facility operates with three passenger terminals and two parallel runways designed to handle different aircraft types.
The airport opened in April 1995 to replace two older facilities that previously handled civil aviation in Wuhan. The third terminal building was added in 2017 to respond to growing passenger traffic in central China.
The airport serves as a connection point between central China and global destinations, processing travelers from 53 countries under the 144-hour transit visa program.
An express rail line links the terminals to Hankou Railway Station downtown in about 15 minutes, letting travelers reach the city center quickly. Buses and taxis are also available outside the arrival areas and provide direct connections to different neighborhoods.
Travelers from over 50 countries can use the 144-hour transit visa service to explore Hubei and neighboring provinces without applying for a visa beforehand. This policy makes the airport a practical starting point for short stays in central China.
