Shing Mun Country Park

Shing Mun is a country park in the New Territories stretching across roughly 1,400 hectares with varied terrain including hills and walking paths. The area spans from a high pass in the north down to a major road in the south, showcasing the region's natural diversity.

A major reservoir was constructed in the early 20th century to improve water supply, leading to the relocation of villagers. The project was completed in the 1930s and permanently changed the landscape.

A traditional grove near a former village site preserves over 70 native tree species and holds significance in local beliefs. Visitors walking through this area experience how nature and heritage remain woven into daily life.

The park is easily accessible by minibus from a nearby transit hub, making it simple to reach different areas. Various rest spots, restrooms, and small food vendors are scattered throughout, allowing visitors to take breaks along the way.

The park contains an arboretum housing thousands of plants, including many rare species from the region and nearby areas. This collection showcases the botanical diversity that is otherwise difficult to see in one place.
