Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Binhai Center, Supertall skyscraper in Binhai New Area, Tianjin, China
The Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Binhai Center is a 530-meter-tall skyscraper with 98 floors above ground, wrapped in a curved glass exterior. Eight massive sloping columns support the entire structure and give it its distinctive tapered form.
Construction began in 2013 under New World Development's oversight and finished in 2019. The completion marked a turning point in how Tianjin presented itself as a major business hub.
The tower represents Tianjin's shift into a modern business center and shows how the city reinvents itself through architecture. Locals and visitors experience office spaces, residences, and hotels stacked vertically, reflecting how contemporary Chinese cities build upward rather than outward.
The building houses 267 elevators to move people through its many floors efficiently. Its tapered aerodynamic shape helps reduce wind pressure on the structure as you go higher.
This is the tallest building in the world with fewer than 100 floors, a remarkable engineering achievement. Below ground, a complex network of underground levels supports the entire structure and its operations.

This collection brings together skyscrapers that showcase advances in modern engineering and architecture worldwide. These structures rise above metropolises and reshape city horizons, from the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab in Dubai to the CCTV headquarters in Beijing with its two linked towers. Each building reflects a unique architectural approach and technical innovations tailored to its environment. The selection spans all continents and features buildings with various functions. The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, 452 meters high and connected by a sky bridge, stand alongside New York’s One World Trade Center, which reaches 541 meters. The Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg is notable for its twisted glass facade, while the Torre Costanera in Santiago offers panoramic views of the Andes. Whether residential buildings like the Eureka Tower in Melbourne or commercial structures such as the Kingdom Centre in Riyadh, these constructions demonstrate how contemporary architecture shapes 21st-century cities.
