Qibao Old Town, Ancient water town in Minhang District, Shanghai, China
This ancient town features traditional buildings, narrow stone streets, and waterways characteristic of Jiangnan architecture along Puhui Tang River.
The settlement evolved from Dingjia Village into a market town during the Northern Song Dynasty when the Qibao Temple relocated to this location.
The town maintains a museum dedicated to shadow puppetry, displaying centuries of tradition through colorful performances and exhibitions of regional puppet craftsmanship.
Located 12 kilometers from central Shanghai, visitors can reach Qibao Old Town via Line 9 subway to Qibao Station, followed by a 300-meter walk.
The Qibao Bell Tower contains a 1.9-meter-tall Ming Dynasty bell weighing one ton, which rings annually on New Year's Eve for the town.
