Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Marine amusement park in Hengqin, China
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is an amusement park in Hengqin, China, combining marine aquariums with rides across eight themed zones. The complex spreads across a large site with pathways leading from areas housing seals and penguins to roller coasters and water rides.
Construction began in November 2010 and led to the opening in March 2014 after several years of planning and building. The park emerged as part of a larger project to develop Hengqin Island into a tourism and leisure zone.
The park's eight zones are named after ocean realms, from Ocean Avenue to Hengqin Ocean, and the nightly Journey of Lights parade was designed by Miziker Entertainment. The 5D Castle Theatre shows "Kaka's Great Adventure", a 13-minute animated film on a 1,500-square-metre curved screen. The whale shark sculpture at the Whale Shark Exhibit Aquarium carries a sign reading "鲸鲨馆".
Access is through Zhuhai Changlong station, which connects to the intercity rail system serving Zhuhai Airport. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and plan for long walks between different zones.
The Whale Shark Exhibit Aquarium holds 22.7 million litres, the largest fish tank in the world when it opened, and its viewing panel measures 39.6 by 8.3 metres, a Guinness record. The park's 5D Castle Theatre screen covers 1,500 square metres, also a world record.
