Tuttlingen, District capital in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Tuttlingen is a district capital in Baden-Württemberg that spreads across the valley of the upper Danube. The town extends along both riverbanks and is framed by wooded hills that slope gently toward the water.
The settlement received town rights before 1338 and passed to Württemberg in 1376. After centuries under shifting jurisdictions, it developed into a center for the medical technology industry.
The name comes from an early medieval Alemannic settler called Dudo, whose family lived in this area. The old town centers around the market square, where local shops and inns line the streets.
The town center is easy to explore on foot, with paths along the riverbank and through the pedestrian zone. The surrounding area offers walks on the nearby heights, from which you can look over the Danube valley.
More than half of all surgical instruments worldwide are made here, and you can spot company headquarters and production sites throughout the town. The Honberg Sommer festival transforms a historic castle ruin above the town into an open-air stage for international performers every summer.
