Burg Konzenberg, Medieval castle ruins in Wurmlingen, Germany.
Burg Konzenberg is a castle ruin near Wurmlingen with a prominent rectangular residential tower as its main structure. The site is surrounded by wall fragments and defensive trenches that still reveal the layout of the original fortified complex.
The fortress was built by the Wartenberg family and sold in 1300 to Bishop Heinrich II of Konstanz. After secularization around 1802, it fell into decline and was partially demolished in 1820.
The fortress represents medieval military architecture of Baden-Württemberg, with its defensive walls forming a narrow trapezoid exceeding 50 meters on each side.
The ruin sits on a hilltop and is accessible on foot from Wurmlingen via a walking path. There are no modern facilities on site, so good shoes and a map or directions are useful for your visit.
A hunter lived as the last resident of the site between 1802 and 1820, remaining even as the fortress fell into disuse. This rare detail shows how some medieval fortifications passed away gradually rather than disappearing suddenly.
