Burg Hohenlupfen, Medieval castle ruins on Zeugenberg Lupfen in Talheim, Germany.
Burg Hohenlupfen is a castle ruin on the Zeugenberg Lupfen hilltop near Talheim in Germany. The remains include fortification walls, a moat, and scattered foundation traces spread across the elevated terrain.
The castle was first documented in 1065 and served as the main stronghold for the Counts of Lupfen in their region. It was destroyed in 1377 by troops from Rottweil and never rebuilt afterward.
The castle served as a power center for the Counts of Lupfen, who ruled their Swabian territories from this location. Today, the site reflects the regional importance of this medieval noble family.
The site sits on a hilltop and offers views across the surrounding landscape while exploring. An observation tower from a later period stands where the original keep once was and helps with orientation.
The castle remained relatively unknown for centuries before modern archaeological interest brought renewed attention to its history. Its destruction was so complete that little hint of its former importance remained visible to passing travelers.
