Oktoberfest, Annual beer festival in Munich

Oktoberfest is the world's largest folk festival held each year in Munich and attracts people from around the globe. The event features beer tents, traditional Bavarian music, carnival rides, and a festive gathering that fills the entire grounds.

The first Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a wedding celebration for the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and his bride. Over time it transformed into an annual tradition that continues today and has become deeply tied to Bavarian identity.

Visitors wear traditional Bavarian clothing like Lederhosen and Dirndl dresses that define the festival atmosphere. These outfits connect people to local heritage and make the celebration feel special and rooted in the region.

The festival runs for about 16 to 18 days and finishes on the first weekend in October. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, expect large crowds, and bring cash since many vendors don't accept cards.

Some visitors drink beer from a glass boot, a tall sturdy glass shaped like a boot, which has become a tradition at the event. This custom is optional and many people simply enjoy beer from regular glasses instead.
