Ristfeuchthorn, Mountain summit in Chiemgau Alps, Germany.
Ristfeuchthorn is a summit in the Chiemgau Alps standing at 1,569 meters elevation on the border between Bavaria and Salzburg. The peak rises among neighboring mountains including Sonntagshorn and Watzmann, offering wide views across the Alpine foothills from its ridge.
The mountain sits in an area shaped for centuries by alpine grazing and pastoral settlement. A major salt pipeline from nearby mines ran through the region in the 17th century, bringing infrastructure and changing how people used these mountain lands.
The name reflects historical shepherd shelters and the damp mountain slopes characteristic of the region, showing the connection to alpine grazing practices. Visitors can still see the open pastureland today that sustains this traditional way of life.
The climb starts from Weißbach valley at 610 meters and follows marked trails through forest toward the Sellarnalm rest hut. From there to the summit takes roughly two to three hours as the path grows steeper and opens into exposed terrain.
Hikers pass the Sellarnalm rest hut partway up where the landscape suddenly shifts from dense forest to open pasture and exposed rock. This transition marks where the mountain climate changes enough to stop trees from growing, making the boundary between two worlds very visible.
