Botanischer Garten Augsburg, Municipal botanical garden in Augsburg, Germany.
Botanischer Garten Augsburg is a municipal botanical garden spanning 10 hectares with about 3,100 plant species, including perennials, wild herbs, grasses, and ferns plus a Japanese garden section. The greenhouse complex houses an additional 1,200 tropical and subtropical species.
The garden started in 1936 as a municipal nursery and gradually developed into a larger facility with expanded collections. Its educational programs and exhibitions grew over the following decades.
The Japanese garden section was designed by landscape architect Yoshikuni Araki and features traditional stone arrangements and water features following Japanese design principles. Visitors can experience the thoughtful, balanced composition that characterizes this garden style.
The garden is open daily and features a restaurant, seasonal butterfly exhibitions, and guided tours for visitors. Direct access to the adjacent Augsburg Zoo allows visitors to combine both sites conveniently.
The garden maintains over one million bulb plants and cultivates 280 rose varieties throughout its grounds. This abundance means certain seasons offer especially rich flowering displays worth timing a visit around.
