Anger 1, Department store in Erfurt, Germany
Anger 1 is a department store in the center of Erfurt, housed in a protected heritage building on the main shopping street. It offers several floors of clothing, accessories, and everyday goods for shoppers of all kinds.
The building was constructed in the late 19th century as part of a row of commercial buildings along Anger street. After a period without use, it was renovated around 2000 and reopened as a modern department store.
The building stands on Anger, one of the oldest squares in Erfurt, and its name comes directly from this location. The preserved facade draws attention from passersby, while the interior functions as an ordinary shopping destination.
The store is located directly on Anger, the main pedestrian shopping area of Erfurt, and is easy to reach on foot or by tram. Several entrances make it simple to enter from different directions.
Although the interior was completely rebuilt, the 19th century facade remained untouched and is protected by law. This makes the building one of the few cases in Erfurt where a heritage shell was kept while the inside was fully transformed.
