Tengen, municipality in Germany
Tengen is a small town in southwestern Germany nestled between forests and fields. The center has medieval streets with old stone and brick buildings, while the town opens onto gentle hills and green countryside.
Tengen was founded centuries ago and grew around its market square and town walls. The famous Schätzele-Markt market has been held since 1291 and shaped the town as a regional trade hub.
The name Tengen comes from its historical position along a major trade route. The old town displays traditional architecture with narrow streets, small shops, and cafes where locals and visitors gather.
The town is easy to explore on foot, with well-maintained streets and paths between historic buildings. Comfortable shoes are recommended since most streets have cobblestones and benches are available for rest.
An old fortress tower stands 32 meters high and is visible from a distance. Surprisingly, there are also remains of a Roman farm nearby in Büßlingen, where ancient coins and pottery have been discovered.
