The Gothic Salem Minster stands among Baroque buildings, featuring stone vaults, high windows, and structured architectural elements throughout the complex.
Founded in 1137 by twelve monks from Lucelle Abbey in Alsace, Salem Abbey gained imperial status in 1155 under Frederick I protection.
The monastery developed into a center of Rococo art in 1765, employing numerous painters and sculptors including the Feuchtmayer family.
The State of Baden-Württemberg maintains the buildings, which currently operate as a museum and educational facility with guided tours.
Salem Abbey established the first savings bank in Germany during the 18th century, marking its role in financial innovation.
