Poppelsdorf Palace, Baroque palace in Poppelsdorf, Germany
The palace features four wings arranged around a circular inner courtyard with an arcaded gallery and a rectangular entrance vestibule containing sixteen columns.
Construction began in 1715 under Joseph Clemens, Archbishop-Elector of Cologne, who commissioned French architect Robert de Cotte to design this new structure replacing an old castle.
The palace became part of the University of Bonn in 1818, transforming its grounds into a botanical garden that now maintains 8,000 different plant species.
The palace and botanical gardens welcome visitors from Monday through Sunday between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with wheelchair access limitations throughout the property.
A planned canal would have connected this palace to Bonn Palace 800 meters north, following the architectural pattern of Versailles and Trianon de Marbre.
