Blasiuskapelle, Chapel on Blasiusberg in Dornburg, Germany.
The Blasiuskapelle is a small chapel situated atop a 390-meter basalt summit named Blasiusberg near Dornburg. The location provides panoramic views over the Limburg basin and extends across the surrounding Hessian landscape.
A wooden chapel first stood on this site dating to 630 and was dedicated to Saint Michael, making it one of the oldest churches in the region. The structure has been continuously developed and rebuilt over the centuries to reach its present form.
The chapel draws pilgrims to its location, particularly on the feast day of Saint Blasius when locals gather for religious observances. The site holds deep meaning for the surrounding communities as a place of personal devotion and spiritual connection.
The chapel is accessible by multiple hiking routes ranging from 6 to 20 kilometers with varying difficulty levels and elevation gains suitable for different abilities. Plan your visit according to which trailhead you choose and how much time you have available for the walk.
The chapel narrowly escaped planned demolition in 1816 when the Nassau government ordered its destruction for administrative reasons. A local priest from Frickhofen intervened to prevent the demolition and preserve the structure for future generations.
