Dornburg

Dornburg is a Celtic fortified settlement located on a hilltop in the Westerwald region. The site contains remains of defensive walls and residential areas that spread across the elevated terrain.

Celtic tribes established this fortified settlement during the La Tene period and occupied it from the 5th to 1st century BC. The location served as a significant regional stronghold during that era.

The circular rampart shows how Celtic communities fortified and organized their settlements. The layout of the complex provides insight into how these ancient people lived and defended themselves.

The site is accessible on foot and allows visitors to walk freely across the archaeological grounds. Sturdy shoes are recommended since the terrain is uneven, and it is wise to bring weather protection.

A remarkable feature is the Ewiges Eis crevice where ice formations persist throughout the year despite the surrounding landscape. This natural phenomenon was discovered in 1839 and adds geological interest to the archaeological site.
