Brauerei Gebrüder Jäcklein, Historic brewery in Ilmenau, Germany
Brauerei Gebrüder Jäcklein is an industrial complex extending along the Erfurt-Ilmenau railway line in northern Ilmenau that comprises multiple production buildings. The site features two ponds positioned alongside the substantial brick structures.
The facility was founded in 1897 by brothers Gottlob and Emil Jäcklein and remained the sole brewery in Ilmenau throughout the East German period. Production ceased in 1980 following German reunification and the buildings were adapted for other uses.
The brewery served as a significant local institution for generations and shaped Ilmenau's craft tradition. Today visitors can observe the substantial buildings that reflect this heritage.
The grounds are accessible from the exterior and buildings can be viewed from the railway line or nearby streets. Since it is private property, interior areas are not publicly accessible.
For its centennial in 1997, the original Jäcklein Pils recipe was revived and continues to be brewed at Saalfeld Brewery. The historic formula thus endures more than a century after the company's founding.
