Landesarboretum Baden-Württemberg, Botanical garden and arboretum in Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany
The Landesarboretum is a botanical garden and tree museum spread across spacious grounds in Hohenheim, displaying thousands of different tree species from around the world. The collection includes deciduous and coniferous trees arranged in different sections by plant family or geographic origin.
Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg created the garden between 1776 and 1793, establishing an English landscape park as a foundation. He began with roughly 120 tree species and built the collection systematically over time.
The name reflects its importance as a state-level collection for the region, and visitors see carefully labeled plants that encourage learning about trees. Walking through different sections reveals how various species relate to their native habitats and growing conditions.
The grounds are flat and easy to explore on foot, with paths leading through themed areas. It is good to wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to wander through different sections at a relaxed pace.
Several original trees from the 18th century still stand on the grounds today and are over 200 years old. These specimens show how the collection began generations ago and reveal the garden's long-term development.
