Burg Overbach, Medieval castle in Much, Germany
Burg Overbach is a medieval fortified residence near Much featuring a moated stone structure with preserved walls and towers. The castle sits in the Rhine-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia and continues to define the landscape of this area.
The fortress was built in 1487 and first belonged to the nobleman Heinrich von Overbach. Over the centuries it changed hands multiple times among different noble families and other owners, including the von Nesselrode family.
The castle represents a type of noble residence that was common in this Rhine region during the late 1400s. Visitors can observe how the fortified layout and design reflect the way aristocratic families organized their homes and estates.
The castle grounds now house an 18-hole golf course and are primarily used for golfing activities. A restaurant on site provides food and drinks for visitors and players.
The castle underwent a major renovation in 1685 that gave it much of its present form. This extensive renovation work is still visible in the details of the stonework and fortification structure.
