Burg Pfullingen

Burg Pfullingen is a castle located in Pfullingen with a rectangular four-wing complex and an arched bridge spanning the river Echaz beside the main building. The layout includes multiple connected structures organized around courtyards and interior spaces.

The castle's origins trace back to the medieval period, with 1487 marking a significant transfer to Württemberg. Over the centuries, the structure underwent multiple functional changes that fundamentally altered its purpose and use.

During the 19th century, the complex was transformed into an institutional center where various trades and aspects of daily life functioned in one place. This repurposing permanently shaped the building and gave it a new role within the local community.

The castle is located in Pfullingen and currently houses various local institutions, which may restrict casual access to parts of the grounds. To fully appreciate the structure and its layout, viewing from outside the complex provides the clearest perspective.

During its years as an institution, the castle developed into a self-contained settlement within its walls, complete with its own bakery, workshops, and gardens. This self-sufficiency transformed it into a complex, self-reliant system that went far beyond the typical use of a castle.
