DDR-Museum Zeitreise

The DDR-Museum Zeitreise in Radebeul is a museum dedicated to daily life in the German Democratic Republic, spread across four floors. The collection includes historical vehicles, household items, work equipment, and personal objects that recreate what existence looked like during that period.

The museum was founded in 2006 in a former state-owned industrial building and documents life in East Germany until that political system ended. The collection focuses on the experiences of ordinary citizens throughout this historical period.

The rooms showcase everyday routines from the East German period through original furnishings and personal objects. You walk past reconstructed apartments, shops, and workspaces that show how people actually lived their daily lives during those decades.

The museum is located on Wasastrasse and is open to visitors from Tuesday through Sunday. Plan to spend several hours exploring all four floors and their many objects at a comfortable pace.

Actor Tom Hanks visited the museum while filming Cloud Atlas in Saxony and explored the collection of historical objects. The visit from this well-known guest brought international attention to this location.
