Deutsches Weinbaumuseum, Wine production museum in Oppenheim, Germany
The Deutsches Weinbaumuseum is a wine production museum in Oppenheim that holds over 4,000 objects showing equipment and tools from different periods of German winemaking. The collection spans multiple sections where visitors can trace how techniques evolved from grape growing to barrel building.
The museum opened in 1980 within a Baroque building and records more than 2,000 years of German wine history through rare items and old machinery. Its founding came at a time when many craft traditions were fading and needed to be preserved.
Wine holds deep importance in German tradition, and this museum reveals how winemakers have maintained their craft across generations. Visitors can observe tools and techniques that remain part of vineyard life or linger in local memory.
The museum is open from April through October and offers group tours year-round when reserved at least 10 days in advance. Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore the different sections, as the collection is large and filled with details to discover.
The museum keeps one of the world's largest collections of mousetraps, visible as you move through the exhibition. Also remarkable is a massive wine barrel from 1860 that once held 11,800 liters.
