Deutsches Werkzeugmuseum, Tool museum in Remscheid, Germany
The German Tool Museum is a museum in Remscheid displaying approximately 10,000 objects showing how tools developed from ancient times to the present day. The collection includes hand tools of all types as well as a working steam engine from 1907 with a large flywheel that powered multiple machines.
The museum was founded in 1967 and expanded in 1996 to house a growing collection of tools. Among the exhibits is an original electric furnace from Richard Lindberg steelworks that had been operating since 1906 and documents the region's industrial history.
The exhibits showcase tools from agriculture, construction, and metalworking that reveal how people worked in German-speaking regions. Walking through the collections, you notice how work methods changed as new technologies developed.
The museum is located on Cleffstrasse and welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday. Guided tours are available to help you learn more about the collections and how the machines work.
A special feature is the electric furnace from Richard Lindberg steel production, showing how early electrical technology was applied in industry. This furnace came from one of the region's earliest steelworks and is a rare example of early industrial electrification.
