Niederlausitzhalle, Gymnasium and architectural monument in Senftenberg, Germany
Niederlausitzhalle is a gymnasium in Senftenberg featuring a 250-meter running track, two playing fields for multiple sports, and seating for approximately 1200 spectators. The steel-framed structure allows flexible use for various sporting events.
Opened in 1959 as Europe's largest self-supporting hall at that time, the building was originally named Aktivist and marked regional industrial growth. In 1976 the original wooden arch roof was replaced with a steel frame structure.
The facility hosts sports competitions where track and field events, handball matches, and boxing tournaments take place at national level. Visitors can experience the intensity of these sports firsthand at the venue.
The building is located next to the Brandenburg Technical University campus, making it easily accessible. The facility is currently undergoing renovation and expansion, so visitors should check beforehand about current access and opening conditions.
Inside the facility is a running track specifically built for 100-yard races, which was unusual for European sports halls. Adjacent to this are four bowling lanes in a separate section, giving the building multiple recreational uses.
