Christoph 33, Emergency helicopter station in Senftenberg, Germany
Christoph 33 is a helicopter rescue station in Senftenberg equipped with two helicopters and modern medical gear. The facility provides dedicated emergency response capabilities for the entire Lausitz region around the clock.
The station opened on December 21, 1991 and initially operated a Bölkow Bo 105 helicopter. In March 2007 it switched to the modern Eurocopter EC 135 to achieve better response capabilities.
The station follows the German tradition of naming rescue helicopters after Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers and transportation. This naming choice reflects the important role such services play in keeping the region safe.
Emergency calls are coordinated through the Lausitz control center in Cottbus, with the helicopter handling daily missions. Availability depends on daylight and weather conditions, so it is important to understand that rescue operations may be limited in poor weather.
The medical crew brings together pilots from ADAC Air Rescue, emergency physicians, and paramedics from Niederlausitz Hospital who work as a coordinated team. This specialized composition allows for quick and coordinated rescue actions at critical moments in the field.
